Under general supervision, performs repairs, overhauls, and performs preventive maintenance on city automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery; operates vehicles and equipment; picks up and delivers vehicles and parts and maintains stock room; and performs maintenance of city facilities as needed

High school graduation or its equivalent plus two years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Methods, practices, equipment, and materials used on the service and repair of automotive mechanics; safe operation and repair of automotive, light, and heavy equipment, including brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Methods, practices, and equipment used in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and HVAC repair work; safe operation of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repair equipment; safe operation of hand and electrical tools.
Diagnose problems and repair vehicles, facilities and equipment; repair hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel engines, and heavy equipment; uses tools and equipment such as electronic and mechanical diagnostic equipment, tire changers, bench grinders, pressure washers, hoists, jacks, and a variety of hand and power tools; read wiring diagrams and electrical circuits; operate diagnostic equipment; understand and follow instructions; tolerate adverse working conditions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and maintain Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities.
A valid Texas commercial driver’s license (B CDL) or higher is required. Employees who do not have a Class B CDL (Commercial) Texas driver’s license must successfully obtain this license within 180 days of hire. The City of Brenham offers an in-house training program to obtain this license. EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification preferred.
